These particles can lead to rust, according to ASTM A380 Standard "Passivation is the removal of exogenous iron or iron compounds from the surface of a stainless steel by means of a chemical dissolution, most typically by a treatment with an acid solution that will remove the surface contamination but will not significantly affect the stainless steel itself."

Ultrasonic passivation offers superior rust inhibition as compared to antiquated dip tank methods. Ultrasonic cavitation allows micro-scrubbing of the outer layer of the material, used in conjunction with passivation chemistry, to remove any possibility of oxidation of the stainless steel.
